MTV viewers nationwide cast their votes for the offbeat, the, well, un-Oscar side of filmdom, as the 2000 MTV Movie Awards were unveiled Saturday night with sci-fi thriller “The Matrix” the big winner.

Besides taking the award for best picture, “The Matrix” also brought star Keanu Reeves best male performance honors, with the best fight going to the battle between Reeves and Laurence Fishburne.

Sarah Michelle Gellar was singled out for giving the best female performance for her starring role in “Cruel Intentions,” sharing a second award--best kiss--with “Cruel” co-star Selma Blair.
