Play Ball: I’m a baseball coach in both fall and spring. Saturday starts with baseball practice. I work with the pitchers and catchers. I played semipro ball in my 20s in the California Baseball Assn., so I’m nuts for it. And it’s really a big deal in our family. Then it’s the gym in Malibu. I’ll usually try to work my legs that day because my arm is tired from practice.

Getaways and Good Eats: As a family, we usually go toward Palm Desert. We’ll find someplace with a swimming pool [for our children, Cody, Devon and Rem]. They have a water park out there that the kids love. And there are wonderful baseball cages. Big League Dreams Sports Park has replicas of Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park. A restaurant there called Las Casuelas makes Mexican food that tastes a lot to me the way my grandmother made it. Apparently it was the favorite of the Rat Pack in their day. I love that place.

Pass the Popcorn: Every fall, my wife, Leslie, and I try to go into Santa Monica and book a hotel room for a weekend and just go to movies wall-to-wall Friday through Sunday night and take advantage of all the great independent films that come out. It’s really a blast. I’m pretty much a movie junkie and one of the great advantages of living in Los Angeles is you can see all the films that don’t get shown too many places on the planet. I’ll try to see every single thing.

Staying in Tune: I write songs. I’ll get an idea and work on it as much as I can, but I’m not producing things at any fast pace. When I get an idea, I’ll spend a lot of time thinking about it to and fro work because it’s a long drive over to ABC Prospect from Malibu. Finally I get to the point where it turns into a germ of a song. That’s a hard pleasure to get to these days.
