New Grand Jurors to Be Announced
The Ventura County Grand Jury for the coming fiscal year will be announced July 5 during a ceremony during which a final report by the current panel will be released.
Ventura County Superior Court judges have nominated 30 residents from throughout the county, 19 of whom will be seated on the 2000-2001 grand jury. The remaining 11 will serve as alternates.
The finalists were culled from the county’s five supervisorial districts and include eight residents from Ventura, five from Oxnard, and four each from Camarillo, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks, two each from Ojai and Westlake Village and one from Port Hueneme.
The pool also includes seven alternates from the 1999-2000 grand jury. Before selecting the new panel, which is done by random drawing, the 30 nominees will attend training sessions.
The ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. July 5 in Courtroom 22 at the Hall of Justice in Ventura. Copies of the 1999-2000 grand jury report will be available to the public after the ceremony.
