Sorenstam Finishes With an Eagle Putt in Playoff
Annika Sorenstam’s eagle putt on the first playoff hole Saturday beat rival Karrie Webb for the championship of the Evian Masters LPGA Tour golf tournament at Evian, France.
Sorenstam had 172 yards to the pin for her second shot and hit her seven-iron to within five feet.
Webb wound up in a greenside trap.
“This was definitely in the top five of my victories,” Sorenstam said. “The way she played and the way I finished it, it was my best golf in a long time. My heart’s been pumping all day.”
It was her third LPGA Tour title of the year and the 21st of her career. She pocketed $270,000.
Sorenstam trailed Webb by one stroke after three rounds, but pulled even by firing a four-under-par 68 at the Royal Evian Club course.
Both players finished at 12-under 276.

Walter Hall shot a five-under 67 and holds a one-stroke lead after the second round of the Senior PGA Tour’s SBC Championship at San Antonio.
Hall, hospitalized this week because of kidney stones, eagled the par-five ninth hole, hitting his nine-iron approach to within six feet of the cup.
