Officials with the Seal Beach Animal Care Center are asking for the public’s help in finding a sick, 4-week-old puppy that was taken from the shelter over the weekend.

A volunteer at the center was helping a man look at dogs Saturday evening, including two shepherd mixed-breed siblings in a pen at the front of the shelter. Left alone, the man apparently took one of the puppies and drove off, said shelter volunteer Annelle Aviani.

“Usually, people sneak animals into the shelter not out,” Aviani said.

Charlie was brought into the shelter along with his sister, Cecilia, when they were 2 days old. Both were being given medication for pneumonia and were being weaned off bottle feeding.

Shelter officials said the man looking at Charlie was Asian, perhaps a college student, driving a white car. A photo of the puppy and information can be found at the center’s Web site, https://sbacc.org. Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call (562) 430-4993 or (562) 596-1552.
