Undone by the ‘Unfitted” Kitchen

Share

Thank you to Johnny Grey (“ ‘Unfitted’ Kitchens Create Home Around the Range,” June 8) for showing me the error of my ways. This morning I am taking a crowbar to my fitted counters and cabinets, and rushing right out to the Pacific Design Center to order a newfangled “unfitted” kitchen.

Here are some of the things I am looking forward to:

1. Free-standing workstations and cupboards should give me a lot less counter and storage space. Like most people, I think my 8-foot-by-12-foot kitchen has way too much as it is. I can’t wait to have less.

2. I’m looking forward to cleaning up the dust and dirt that will accumulate behind and under all those unanchored pieces of kitchen furniture.

3. As far as functionality goes, this should bring my kitchen right up into the 19th century!

4. As a Californian, I can hardly wait until the next earthquake so I can watch all my unfitted pieces hop around the kitchen scattering their contents hither and yon.
