A community organization that buys and delivers groceries for senior citizens and the disabled will have a benefit sale Saturday and Sunday to raise money for a new van.

The van will carry groceries for Shop-A-Hoy, which delivers to 130 households in west Ventura County.

The sale will include two cars, kitchen wear, fabric, furniture, electronics and computer equipment, along with accessories for the disabled such as special canes, seats and pillows.

Shop-A-Hoy has 56 volunteers and plans to expand service to senior citizens in Camarillo and Thousand Oaks in September.

The group takes orders, and twice a week volunteers purchase goods for senior citizens who cannot buy the food themselves, said Judy Madaj, director of program development and one of the founders of the organization almost two years ago.

“We’ve been expanding like crazy and we need the van to transport the food to them,” she said.

The sale will be at 147 Harding Ave. in Ventura from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. For information, call Madaj at 659-1530.
