Craig Schuler, a 36-year-old assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., has been selected football coach at Alemany High.

Schuler has coached for 11 years at Benedictine, an NAIA school. He learned about the Alemany job opening from a Web site. He said he was looking to move to a city where his wife, an American Airlines flight attendant, could be based.

“It’s a big change but I think it’s a very good high school job,” Schuler said.

Alemany officials were impressed with Schuler’s football background and his strong family ties. He’s the father of daughters 4 and 11.

“We think he’s going to be a good fit,” athletic director Tim Browne said.

Schuler plans to be on campus for spring practice. He replaces Jim Bonds, who resigned to become coach at St. Francis.
