A Little Hit in Ninth Goes a Long Way for El Camino Real, 6-5

Beau Savage’s infield hit scored Sean McElroy in the ninth inning to give El Camino Real High a 6-5 West Valley League baseball victory over Birmingham on Tuesday at Birmingham.

El Camino Real (8-2, 3-0 in league play), ranked No. 5 in The Times’ regional poll, had 11 hits, three by Polo Gomez, including a run-scoring double.

Lucio Tapia, Jimmy McGrath and Jose Carrillo each had two hits for Birmingham (5-5, 0-3).

Chatsworth 11, Cleveland 4--Brian Lee had two doubles, a triple, two RBIs and scored three times for the Chancellors in a West Valley League victory at Chatsworth.

Jacob Ball hit a three-run double to ignite a six-run sixth inning for Chatsworth (8-1-1, 3-0), ranked No. 7.

Granada Hills 14, Taft 4--Ryan Braun hit a two-run home run and Mike Seiser had a two-run double and a bases-loaded walk for the Highlanders in a West Valley League victory at Taft that was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Josh Walter had three hits for the Toreadors (2-8, 5-3), who committed five errors.

Sylmar 13, Van Nuys 0--Eddie Camacho (3-1) retired all 15 batters for the Spartans in a Valley Mission League game that was called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule at Sylmar.

Camacho had two hits, an RBI and scored two runs for Sylmar (7-3, 3-0), which no-hit Reseda in a five-inning game Thursday.

Monroe 7, Kennedy 3--Dennis King had two doubles and two RBIs for the Vikings in a Valley Mission League victory at Monroe.

John Andrade (2-3) pitched a three-hitter, striking out five for Monroe (4-8, 2-1).

Adam Geery hit a run-scoring single for Kennedy (4-7, 1-2).

San Fernando 10, Reseda 2--Abraham Gonzalez had six strikeouts and gave up only two hits through four innings to spark the Tigers (4-6, 2-1) to a Valley Mission League victory at San Fernando.

Loyola 15, Alemany 1--The Cubs (3-7, 1-4) had 13 hits in a Mission League game that was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule at Alemany.

A.J. Anthony had two hits for Alemany (4-6, 2-1).

Chaminade 12, Harvard-Westlake 2--Sean Clark (3-0) pitched a three-hitter for the Eagles (3-2) in a Mission League victory at Chaminade.

Erik Johnson had two hits and three RBIs, and Jimmy Milkovich added two hits and two RBIs for Chaminade (6-4, 3-2).

Burroughs 11, Canyon 1--Jesse Dominguez pitched a one-hitter for the Indians in a Foothill League victory at Burroughs.

Josh LaGrotta broke up the no-hitter with one out in the fourth inning.

Aaron Sheehey hit a three-run home run for the Indians (6-3, 4-0) during a seven-run fifth inning.

Hart 4, Saugus 2--Bill Susdorf hit a two-run double in the first and Ryan Haag hit a solo home run in the second for the Indians in (9-2, 3-0) a Foothill League victory at Saugus.

Kyle Love hit a two-run single in the fifth for Saugus (2-8-1, 0-4).

Valencia 11, Burbank 6--Cody Lange hit a grand slam and Luis Velasquez hit a two-run homer in a six-run sixth for the Vikings in a Foothill League victory at Valencia.

Steve Baker hit two solo home runs for Burbank.

Chris Rippe, Jimmy Rohan and Chris Hamilton each had two hits for Valencia (9-2, 2-2).

Crescenta Valley 11, Muir 0--Jon Naka, Brandon Higelin and Adam Schaller combined for a one-hitter with six strikeouts and freshman Colt Forsythe hit a two-run home run for the Falcons (5-4, 1-3) in a Pacific League game at Muir.

Rio Mesa 7, Channel Islands 1--Nick Barroso had three hits and three RBIs for the Spartans (5-7, 1-4) in a Pacific View League victory at Channel Islands.

Nordhoff 10, Malibu 5--The Rangers rallied from a 5-1 fifth-inning deficit, scoring eight runs in the sixth in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff.

Dave Valencia hit a three-run home run in the sixth and Tony Lagos added a two-run double.

La Canada 26, Blair 0--Josh Ballard was five for five with three RBIs for the Spartans (6-4, 3-1) in a Rio Hondo League game that was called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule at La Canada.

Hueneme 16, Ventura 6--Jaime Martinez had two hits and drove in six runs for the Vikings (3-7) in a nonleague game that was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule at Hueneme.
