LAGUNA BEACH
Laguna Canyon View Knoll could soon bear the name of Carolyn Wood, the woman who helped preserve open space near the 471-acre site that has a panoramic view.
Wood, an activist who fights development, recently won city recognition, and council members agreed to name the Laguna Canyon View Knoll in her honor.
The knoll sits atop of the Richard Jahraus Top of the World Reservoir, which is buried. Wood has been fighting construction, development and highways since the 1960s.
Wood was pleased the city will acknowledge her dedication to the site.
“I was really thrilled,” she said. “I’ve worked hard. That knoll is where I got started doing environmental work.”
