Nick Parras; Former Redondo Beach Schools Chief

Nick G. Parras, 73, former superintendent of the Redondo Beach City School District. Educated in the Redondo Beach school system, Parras earned a teaching degree from Pepperdine College and spent his entire 38-year career in the Redondo Beach district. He began teaching eighth grade at Hillcrest Junior High School, which was later named the Nick G. Parras Middle School in his honor. He moved up to assistant principal and principal of various elementary schools. In 1958, Parras became the district’s assistant business manager and two years later was promoted to deputy superintendent, a position he held for 22 years. During his seven years as superintendent, from 1983 until he retired in 1990, Parras was credited with implementing and expanding programs in computer education, art and music and public speaking.
