Dameron Gives Up Boys’ Soccer Job at Corona del Mar

Scott Dameron has resigned as the boys’ soccer coach at Corona del Mar High to spend more time on his coaching duties for the Vanguard women’s team, Athletic Director Jerry Jelnick said.

In his one season at Corona del Mar, Dameron led the Sea Kings to a 10-7-1 record and the first round of the Southern Section Division IV playoffs.

* Natalie Franklin, a center-midfielder at Cal State Dominguez Hills, is transferring to play soccer for the women’s team at UC Irvine, she said.

A graduate of North Torrance High, Franklin will be a junior next season. She said she is changing colleges because she wants a chance to prove herself on the Division I level. Dominguez Hills, located in Carson, is Division II.

FOOTBALL

Trung Nguyen of Santiago High has committed to play at Chapman, Cavalier Coach Ben Haley said. Nguyen, a three-year starter at defensive back, earned consecutive All-Garden Grove League honors.

EQUESTRIAN

The Interscholastic Equestrian League will hold its last competition of the season 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

Founded in 1993, the league provides horseback riding competition on four levels--varsity, junior varsity, freshman and novice--for more than 120 students, representing more than 40 public and private schools.
