What: Stamps

Baseball fans will soon be able to enjoy a new collectible, and it’s one that’s guaranteed to stick.

The U.S. Postal Service will unveil its Legends of Baseball stamps today at Busch Stadium in St. Louis in a ceremony before the Cardinals play the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 20 stamp designs, illustrated by Joe Saffold of Savannah, Ga., will honor 20 members of major league baseball’s all-century team, including Brooklyn Dodger great Jackie Robinson.

Also to be commemorated: Roberto Clemente, Ty Cobb, Mickey Cochrane, Eddie Collins, Dizzy Dean, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Josh Gibson, Lefty Grove, Rogers Hornsby, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Satchel Paige, Babe Ruth, George Sisler, Tris Speaker, Pie Traynor, Honus Wagner and Cy Young.

What, no Joe DiMaggio? No Sandy Koufax?

Easy to explain: No commemorative stamp will be issued for an individual until at least 10 years after that person’s death.

The self-adhesive stamps will be available July 7.
