Woman Raped Near School, Police Say
Los Angeles police are searching for a man who allegedly raped a woman near St. Patrick School.
The assailant allegedly attacked a 21-year-old woman in the 10600 block of Erwin Street, LAPD Sgt. John Pasquariello said Friday. The man forced the woman into bushes near the parochial school’s faculty parking lot and assaulted her Thursday at 10:15 a.m., authorities said.
According to police, the assailant is suspected of also attacking a 27-year-old female jogger at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in the same neighborhood. The man had been following the jogger and pulled her into some bushes, but she escaped unharmed, Pasquariello said.
The attacker is described as African American, 17 to 25 years old and 5 foot 8 to 5 foot 11, police said.
On Thursday, St. Patrick School officials sent letters to parents telling them and their children to be more alert and cautious, Principal Laurin Boadt said. Parents have been asked to enter the campus and personally pick up their children, she said.
The school also requested that parents provide transportation for children who normally walk home, Boadt said. The campus, which has 320 students in preschool through eighth grade, is kept locked, she said.
