Geoff Jenkins, the Milwaukee Brewers’ leader in nearly every offensive category, will be sidelined for one month after suffering a broken bone in the middle finger of his right hand.

Milwaukee put Jenkins on the 15-day disabled list after Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Montreal Expos at Milwaukee. He was held out of the lineup.

Jenkins suffered the injury while swinging at a pitch in the second inning of Friday night’s 10-2 loss to the Expos. He lost control of his bat on the swing, and it flew into the crowd and hit the arm of a female spectator who left the game wearing a soft cast.

Jenkins, the Brewers’ cleanup hitter and left fielder, has hit 11 home runs, tying him with four others for the National League lead before Saturday. He leads the Brewers’ regular players in batting average (.298), runs batted in (23), runs (19), hits (31), total bases (69) and slugging percentage (.663).

Two days after enduring the shortest start of his career, right-hander Pete Harnisch of the Cincinnati Reds was put on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Friday, because of weakness in the rotator cuff of his throwing shoulder. He is expected to be sidelined three to four weeks.

Harnisch gave up six runs and retired only one batter in a 14-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.

Outfielder Reggie Sanders was put on the 15-day disabled list by the Atlanta Braves because of a sprained left ankle, a move retroactive to April 30.

Sanders was injured while crossing first base on a fielder’s choice in his second at-bat April 29 at San Diego. At the time, he was hitting .139 with two RBIs after ending an 0-for-34 slump with a double in that game.

Atlanta purchased the contract of infielder Steve Sisco--a former player at Cal State Fullerton--from Triple-A Richmond.

Sisco, 30, hit .260 with three home runs and six RBIs in 20 games at Richmond after batting .316 with five homers and nine RBIs in 38 spring training at-bats.
