Boston Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, unable to play with pain in his left hamstring, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday.

Garciaparra missed two games last weekend with a sore left hamstring, then aggravated the injury Thursday night in the first inning of Boston’s 11-4 victory over Baltimore.

“I knew yesterday that I hurt it pretty good,” said Garciaparra, the 1999 American League batting champion. “It’s pretty sore today.”
