Impeachment in Preakness

Share

After working half a mile in 48 seconds Tuesday at Belmont Park, Impeachment, the third-place finisher in the Kentucky Derby, was added to the field for Saturday’s Preakness at Pimlico.

“He worked dynamite,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “He’s coming up to the race in great shape.”

Pletcher said that Impeachment would be ridden by Craig Perret, who rode the colt in the Derby. The field for the 125th Preakness is set at eight horses, the smallest since only eight ran when Hansel won in 1991. Besides Fusaichi Pegasus, the Kentucky Derby winner, and Impeachment, the other probables are High Yield, Hal’s Hope, Hugh Hefner, Snuck In, Captain Steve and Red Bullet.

Snuck In worked half a mile in :48 1/5 Tuesday at Churchill Downs. He will be flown, with Fusaichi Pegasus and Captain Steve, from Louisville to Baltimore today.

Pletcher said that More Than Ready, fourth in the Derby, is off the Triple Crown trail. His next race will be against older horses in the Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont on May 29.
