The Orange Empire Conference selected 40 city students, along with others from across the county, as Little Scholars of 1999.

The children, all ages 9 to 15, are members of the city’s Pop Warner football and cheerleading squads and were named Outstanding Athletic Scholars based on their academic performance while participating in city sports.

Three youths, Ryan Diaz, 14; Kyle Lishok, 13; and Stephanie McNally, 12, made the conference’s first Little Scholar team and could go on to compete for college scholarships on the national level.
