A Santa Ana woman was in critical condition late Tuesday after her husband stabbed her repeatedly, authorities said.

Police found her husband, 57-year-old Guillermo Contreras, covered in blood and holding a 2-year-old boy when they responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 300 block of East Central Avenue shortly after noon, said Police Sgt. Raul Luna.

Inside the house, investigators found the 25-year-old woman, who was not identified, with multiple stab wounds to her head. A butcher knife was stuck in her throat, Luna said.
