British techno group Underworld is working on a DVD, as well as a live double CD package, both due Sept. 12. Expect visual contributions to the DVD from the Tomato, the design firm that the group is part of. Meanwhile, with the departure of Darren Emmerson, the act’s DJ, the remaining two members will play European festivals this summer with guests on the turntables. . . .

While the record business in general is trying to rein in unpaid-for distribution of music on the Internet, V2 Records is offering the new releases from 12 Rods and Sumack, with full liner notes and artwork, through Liquid Audio, for free. The catch? Liquid Audio’s system will encode the downloads so they can’t be transferred to portable players, transmitted as MP3 files or burned on CDs, and the files will be set to “time out,” meaning they will only be playable for a limited period. . . .

Boy George has turned remixer, working on a version of the track “Filthy Mind” by singer-songwriter Amanda Ghost, a friend of his from the London club scene. Boy’s remix will be included on a single release, due Tuesday, with the debut album, “Ghost Stories,” due Aug. 22.
