Bomb Threat Closes Freeway, Rail Line
Authorities responding to a call that explosives had been planted in a parked car suspended Metro Green Line service and closed the Century Freeway south of downtown for three hours Thursday night, backing up traffic for miles, until they determined it was a hoax.
Sheriff’s Deputy Bruce Thomas said a man had parked a car under a freeway overpass and someone had warned that explosives in the trunk would detonate if anyone approached.
As a precaution, authorities evacuated everyone within 1,000 yards of the vehicle at about 10 p.m.
Los Angeles police sent five to six buses to take residents of the Imperial Courts housing project to a nearby middle school.
At about midnight, a robot was sent in and determined the car contained no explosives.
