Seminoles’ Linebacker Hurt

Florida State linebacker Brian Allen, the No. 4 Seminoles’ leading tackler, missed his second practice in a row because of a strained right calf and could miss Saturday’s game against No. 10 Clemson. . . . Missouri Coach Larry Smith told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he won’t resign his post despite speculation to the contrary. Smith is in his seventh year as Tiger coach. His team has been outscored, 240-92, in six losses. . . . Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz, who has guided the Hawkeyes for the better part of two seasons without a contract, agreed to terms with the school. The pact extends until June 30, 2005 and could pay Ferentz as much as $900,000 a year with academic and athletic incentives. Ferentz is 2-18 in two years at the school. . . . Rutgers Coach Terry Shea will step down after the season, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported Fri day. The newspaper said Shea agreed to resign Thursday after meeting with school officials.
