Man Arrested in Attempted Robbery
An Oxnard man who allegedly used a toy gun to hold up a party supply shop was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery Friday, after the store owner identified him.
The suspect, Carlos Otero, 22, later confessed to a several other recent robberies in the city, police said.
Oxnard Police Cmdr. Tom Chronister said Otero walked into the shop in 100 block of A Street about noon, pointed the toy gun at the store owner and demanded cash. He apparently panicked and fled without any money when a customer walked into the store, police said.
He was arrested near the store a short time later. The toy gun was also recovered, Chronister said.
Otero was being held at Ventura County Jail on Friday evening on $100,000 bail.
