Elizabeth F. Langguth; Retired Teacher

Elizabeth F. Langguth, a retired teacher, died Wednesday at a Camarillo hospital following a brief illness. She was 82.

She was born May 14, 1918, in St. Peter, Minn. She grew up there and later graduated from high school there.

She received a bachelor’s of music degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., in 1940.

She also attended the University of Minnesota, the University of the Pacific, the University of Wisconsin and Stanford University.

Langguth taught English and music at high schools in Iowa, Michigan and Colorado before moving to California in 1950. She taught English, and was a vice principal and counselor at Linden High School in Stockton for 10 years before retiring in 1978.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Stockton and served as choir director for 10 years.

After her retirement, she lived in North Carolina for several years and was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. She was also the choir director and church school superintendent there.

In 1982, she moved to Camarillo, where she was a member of the Mount Cross Lutheran Church. She was the founder of the church library.She was a life member of the PTA, and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the American Assn. of University Women, the Guidance and Counseling Assn., the AAUW Book Club and Friends of the Library.

She is survived by sisters Annabelle Day of Park Rapids, Minn., and Dorothy Stevenson of Bloomington, Minn.

A memorial service is scheduled at 3 p.m. Monday at Mount Cross Lutheran Church in Camarillo with the Rev. John Soyster and Reuben Swanson officiating. Burial will take place next to her parents at Green Hills Cemetery in St. Peter.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
