HIGH SCHOOL

* HUENEME (7-2) vs. VENTURA (8-1)

At Hueneme High, 7:30 p.m.

The Tyler Ebell show takes an interesting turn in a nonleague game against a team that is either dominating or dominated. Hueneme has outscored its last two opponents, Rio Mesa and Channel Islands, 95-6. But the Yellowjackets suffered surprisingly lopsided losses to Oxnard (3-6) and Arroyo Grande (5-4). The UCLA-bound Ebell has 3,102 yards rushing this season. He needs 361 to pass Justin Fargas, former Notre Dame running back, for third on the region’s all-time list and 485 to pass Jermaine Marshall, former Kilpatrick running back, for the state single-season record. Hueneme running back Leslie Lee has rushed for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns at 9.4 yards a carry. Dwayne Taylor has 618 yards rushing and 804 yards receiving.

* HART (7-2, 4-0) vs. SAUGUS (5-4, 3-1)

At College of the Canyons, 7:30 p.m.

Hart clinched a share of its 10th consecutive Foothill League championship last week. Saugus can claim a share of its first since 1981 and Valencia (7-2, 3-1) needs a victory over Canyon to force a three-way tie. Hart has won 47 consecutive league games and outscored Foothill opponents this season, 135-23, and is averaging 350 yards a game while allowing 197. Saugus needs big games from linebacker Jared DePaiva and running back Brandon McCullough. Kyle Matter of Hart, the school’s career passing leader, has passed for 2,533 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. Kevin Donoho has emerged as a primary target, catching 24 passes for seven touchdowns and a 19.3-yard average. Six Hart receivers have caught 22 or more passes.

* NORTH HOLLYWOOD (5-4, 4-0) vs. GRANT (6-3, 4-0)

At Grant High, 2:15 p.m.

Sunset Six League play proved the ideal salve for the nonleague woes of these teams. Grant has the edge because of Perry Clayton, who leads City Section rushers in the region with 2,011 yards and 22 touchdowns. But if North Hollywood is attentive to only Clayton, the Lancers can turn to another threat--receiver Nick Isaak, who averages 22.5 yards on 23 receptions. Isaak has returned two of his four interceptions for touchdowns. North Hollywood employs a balanced attack. Derick Brill has passed for 1,167 yards, throwing primarily to Jamar Lett (32 catches) and Lamar Green (27). Nathaniel Payne has rushed for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns, with most of the production coming in the last five games. Both teams have dangerous kickers. Carlos Mendez of Grant has made six of seven field goals and has scored 61 points. Chris Melo of North Hollywood is two for two on field goals. The winner earns a berth in the City Championship tournament.

* KENNEDY (7-1-1, 3-1) vs. SAN FERNANDO (5-4, 2-2)

At San Fernando High, 7 p.m.

San Fernando’s performance is predicated on health. When quarterback Ruben Nevarez and running back Bobby Stanley and others are at full strength, the Tigers roar. Nevarez (1,046 yards passing) returned from injury last week and San Fernando nearly upset Sylmar. Stanley (605 yards rushing) has not had an episode of asthma for three weeks. Ramon Perry, a receiver, defensive back and kicker who has 39 catches, two interceptions and 92 points, is heating up. But Kennedy counters with a potent and balanced attack that averages nearly 400 yards a game. Adam Geery (1,822 yards, 20 touchdowns) has dangerous receiving threats in Efren Lopez (46 catches, 19.9 average, 13 touchdowns) and James Norris (41 catches). Norris also has scored on runs and kick returns. Jerome Williams (1,298 yards, 20 touchdowns) has developed into one the the region’s top tailbacks. Although Sylmar has beaten both teams and is poised to win the Valley Mission League title, a large crowd is expected for this neighborhood rivalry.

* THOUSAND OAKS (4-5, 3-2) vs. NEWBURY PARK (3-6, 2-3)

At Newbury Park High, 7 p.m.

One of the best comebacks of the season could be completed by Thousand Oaks. The Lancers were 0-5 but have averaged 32.3 points in four consecutive victories. If they win and Agoura loses to Westlake, the Lancers finish second in the Marmonte League. Newbury Park is simply hoping for a playoff spot and, with a victory, could wedge its way into a three-way tie for third with Agoura and Thousand Oaks. A coin flip would determine which two go to playoffs. Thousand Oaks quarterback Ben Olson has recovered from a slow start and leads the league with 2,045 yards passing. He has 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. Newbury Park running back Marcus Crawford has played well lately after a surprisingly slow start. Crawford has rushed for 967 yards and 13 touchdowns.

* CRESCENTA VALLEY (8-1, 3-1) vs. ARCADIA (6-3, 4-0)

At Arcadia High, 7:30 p.m.

Arcadia clinched a share of its third consecutive Pacific League title with a stunning 34-20 victory over Muir last week. Crescenta Valley, which lost to Muir, 31-28, can force a three-way tie for first for the second consecutive year with a victory, assuming Muir (5-4, 3-1) defeats Pasadena. Arcadia has won the last two meetings against Crescenta Valley by a total of six points. Crescenta Valley’s spread offense will work against a porous defense, which allows 27.4 points a game. Quarterback Hudson Gossard set school records this season with 2,195 yards and 29 touchdowns. But the junior has thrown 14 interceptions. Split back Jason Hogan and receiver Jason Burkhart have combined on 108 catches, 1,335 yards and 18 touchdowns. Arcadia, which averages 31 points a game, has a balanced attack. Quarterback J.D. Ziska has passed for more than 1,500 yards and tailback Chris Handy has rushed for nearly 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns. Philip Potter, a two-way starter at linebacker and tight end, is the Apaches’ most dominate player. Potter and defensive back Brian Golper, who has five interceptions, lead the team in tackles.
