Substance Forces Interchange Closure

Share

For the second time this week, an unknown slippery substance caused the shutdown Thursday of the Ronald Reagan Freeway’s interchange with the Golden State Freeway during morning rush hour.

A motorist who lost control on the slick road surface and nearly crashed alerted the California Highway Patrol to the spill about 4:30 a.m.

Northbound and southbound transition roads to the Golden State Freeway were closed from 5:30 to 9:30 a.m. while Caltrans crews cleaned up the mess, CHP Officer Vince Bell said.

“What the substance was and how it got there is still under investigation,” Bell said.

On Tuesday, a similar spill closed a southbound connector road for nearly nine hours.
