Ornelas and Grajeda Knock Out Opponents
Two local boxers picked up knockout victories during Thursday night’s “Battle in the Ballroom” at the Irvine Marriott.
Super middleweight Enrique Ornelas, 20, of La Habra, improved his record to 7-0 with a third-round uppercut that dropped Gene Marc (1-1) in the center of the ring.
“I kind of noticed he was opening up when I used my uppercut earlier,” Ornelas said, “so I tried it again and it worked.”
Welterweight Roddy Grajeda of Anaheim went to 2-1 after knocking out Ricardo Moreno with a left hook with 13 seconds left in the fourth round.
In the main event, lightweights Miguel Huerta (10-1, 7 KOs) of Mexico City and Memo Moreno (5-5) of Los Angeles went the distance in an eight-round bout that ended in a unanimous decision in favor of Huerta.
Middleweight Charles Blake of Vista defeated Ashot Sindoyan (0-3) of Beverly Hills in a four-round unanimous decision to improve to 5-0-1.
In a lightweight bout, 18-year-old Mike Anchondo of La Puente improved to 7-0, all knockouts, after a quick first-round victory over Arturo Flores (3-2) of San Fernando.
“My game plan was to come out fast,” said Anchondo. “He [Flores] was a tough fighter and I knew I had to get to him early.”
