Pepperdine 91, Pacific 49--Pepperdine went on a 22-2 run midway through the first half and cruised to the nonconference victory before 1,343 at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Pepperdine (2-1) led, 50-21, at halftime and stretched its advantage to 48 points in the second half.

Pacific (2-1) scarcely resembled the team that defeated Pepperdine, 64-58, last season in Stockton. Or the team that defeated Santa Clara by 22 points on Tuesday.

“We never expected this kind of game,” Pepperdine Coach Jan van Breda Kolff said. “We expected a very difficult game.”

Van Breda Kolff didn’t expect his team to make seven of 11 three-point attempts and all 15 of its free throws in the first half.

Pepperdine’s defensive pressure also made it difficult for the Tigers. The Waves forced 14 turnovers in the first half and 25 in the game.

Brandon Armstrong finished with 26 points, including four three-point baskets. Kelvin Gibbs scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and had 10 rebounds.
