Heat Forward MacLean Suspended for Steroids

Miami Heat forward Don MacLean, formerly of UCLA, was suspended for five games by the NBA on Wednesday for testing positive for steroids.

MacLean has played in only three games this season, averaging 7.3 points and four rebounds.

This is the second season in which NBA players are being tested for steroids. MacLean is the first player to be suspended under the policy.

An NBA hearing to determine who was involved in the secret agreement with former Minnesota Timberwolves forward Joe Smith is set for Dec. 12-13 in New York. . . . The NBA and Continental Basketball Assn. extended their agreement through the 2000-01 season, which could be the final year of their partnership.
