Errict Rhett, the Cleveland Browns’ leading rusher, will miss the rest of the season after being placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a torn ligament in his left foot.

“This is obviously very disappointing news,” Coach Chris Palmer said. “He is so dedicated and sets a great example for everyone.”

Rhett signed a three-year, $6-million free-agent contract during the off-season after two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.

Rhett, who had 258 yards rushing and was third on the team with 14 receptions for 78 yards, got hurt in the second quarter of the Browns’ 12-0 loss to the Baltimore Ravens Sunday.

Rhett, after catching a short pass over the middle, tried to make a cut and went down without contact. The injury was originally diagnosed as a mid-foot sprain.

Fans of the Raiders and most other NFL teams who want to hear their team’s games on the Internet will now be able to on nfl.com or team sites because of a new deal between the league and Yahoo. Five teams are not part of the deal. The Minnesota Vikings have their own Webcasting arrangement, and Washington, Tampa Bay, New England and New York Giants are on stations which prohibit Web transmissions. . . . The San Diego Chargers cut third-year wide receiver Mikhael Ricks, who caught only three passes for 35 yards this season. Ricks was a second-round draft pick for San Diego in 1998 out of Stephen F. Austin State.
