A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly attacked another man with a machete at an intersection in a residential neighborhood.

Police said Saul Sandoval, 30, stopped his van about 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Cordero Avenue and Alexander Street, and, holding a machete, walked toward Humberto Rodriquez, who was sitting behind the wheel of the car directly behind him.

Sandoval swung the machete at Rodriquez, 31, whose driver’s side window was open, said Simi Valley Police Lt. Andy McCluskey.

Rodriquez, also of Simi Valley, attempted to fend off the attack but suffered cuts to his hands, forearms and head, authorities said. He ran to a nearby home for help.

Rodriquez was taken to Simi Valley Hospital where he was treated and later released, a spokeswoman said.

Sandoval turned himself in to police later Thursday night. The weapon thought to be involved is typically used for landscape maintenance, McCluskey said.

The two men have been involved in an ongoing dispute, apparently related to the wife of the suspect, McCluskey said.

Sandoval remained in Ventura County Jail on $500,000 bail.
