Northwood Shuts Down King, Rolls to Convincing Victory

Northwood limited Riverside King to 56 yards rushing and gained 502 yards of offense in a 42-13 victory Friday night at Irvine High School.

Running back Kyle Keating carried 23 times for 141 yards, starting the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown run to finish the Timberwolves’ opening drive of the game. Later in the first half, he scored on a 21-yard touchdown run. He also scored on a 34-yard run in the third quarter.

Quarterback Dan Tomcheck threw for 192 yards, completing 13 of 25 passes with one interception, for the Timberwolves (2-3). Tomcheck connected with Bryan Bentrott for a 63-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Bentrott caught six passes for 112 yards.

Andy Meyer led the way in the second half by rushing for 113 yards in six carries. Meyer scored on a two-yard run in the third quarter and broke a 74-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring for Northwood.

King (1-4) could not get anything going on the ground, but quarterback Austin Thompson passed for 161 yards, completing nine of 21 passes, including a 21-yard touchdown to Dan Hooper, and a 20-yard touchdown to Phillip Sanchez.

Dave Anderson and Tim Tidwell each had an interception.

The game could have been a blowout earlier, but penalties nullified two Northwood touchdowns in the first half, and a fumble stopped another drive on the four-yard line.
