Philadelphia Eagle running back Duce Staley, who sprained his foot last Sunday, might be out for the season.

Staley flew to Columbia, S.C., on Friday to meet with orthopedic surgeon Evan Ekman. He will be out at least four to six weeks, but should he not respond well to further tests this week, he probably will require surgery, which would cost him the season.

The Eagles have not specified the exact nature of the injury, although Coach Andy Reid described it as a sprained ligament that did not appear to be torn.

Staley leads the team with 79 rushes for 344 yards and 25 catches for 201 yards. His primary replacement will be veteran Brian Mitchell, a career backup who has specialized in catching the ball out of the backfield.
