REGISTER TO VOTE

Today is the last day to register to vote for the Nov. 7 general election.

Who Can Register: Under California election laws, to be entitled to vote a person must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old at the time of election and a California resident for 29 days before the election. A person who moves within 28 days of the election can vote by returning to his or her former precinct or by obtaining an absentee ballot for that precinct. Anyone who is in prison or on parole for a felony conviction is ineligible to vote.

Reasons to Register or Re-Register:

* If you have never registered to vote.

* If you have moved since the last election.

* If you have changed your name.

* If you want to change your party affiliation.

How and Where to Register: Forms are available at most county offices, city halls and fire stations. Registration can also be done in person at the Elections Division of the county’s Hall of Administration building at 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura.

Absentee Ballots: Applications for absentee ballots are on the back page of sample ballots. They may also be obtained by writing to the Elections Division, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura CA 93009, or in person at the same address. To be counted, an absentee ballot must be mailed in time to arrive in the registrar’s office by Nov. 7 or returned by the voter personally to any polling place in Ventura County no later than 8 p.m. on election day.
