The Pepperdine women’s soccer team, which had with a school-record 9-1-1 start, faltered to open West Coast Conference play. The Waves lost to San Diego, 1-0, and to nationally ranked Santa Clara, 3-1.
Also losing ground to WCC foes was the men’s water polo team, which was ranked No. 7 before falling to No. 6 San Diego and No. 8 Long Beach.
Holding its own was the No. 6-ranked women’s volleyball team, which beat American University in a nonconference match before defeating Loyola Marymount in four games. The Waves are 13-2 overall and 3-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
