The Pasadena Freeway was shut down Wednesday for more than an hour after a car rammed into two vehicles that had crashed and were stopped in the slow lane.

About 10 a.m., the California Highway Patrol closed off southbound traffic, which was diverted from the freeway at York Boulevard.

A Ford Explorer and a Kia had been involved in a minor injury crash and the drivers were between the two cars, exchanging information, when a Saturn smashed into the Kia.

Natasha Krywcun, driver of the Kia, was crushed between the cars and was later transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital with a broken femur, said CHP officer Scott Ellis. She was transferred in stable condition to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Hollywood.

The driver of the Explorer suffered minor cuts and bruises and walked away from the scene, Ellis said. The motorist in the Saturn complained of mild neck and body pain.

The freeway was reopened at 11:15 a.m.
