A Las Vegas man made it into surgery on time Friday after the medical helicopter in which he was riding made an unplanned landing because of fog.

The helicopter was on its way to UCLA Medical Center in Westwood when the pilot learned the facility was fogged in.

The chopper landed near the San Diego Freeway, near Sepulveda Boulevard and Getty Center Drive, around 9:40 a.m., according to city fire spokesman Bob Collis.
