Matadors Go Long Way, Come Up Short

Kerrie Clavadetscher scored in the 83rd minute for Cal State Northridge, but the Matadors lost to Montana, 5-1, in a Big Sky Conference women’s soccer game Friday at Missoula, Mont.

Montana (11-4-1, 5-1 in conference play) led, 5-0, on two goals each by Heather Olson and Amy Wronski, and one goal by Erin Smith before Clavadetscher scored.

Brynne Blumstein assisted on Clavadetscher’s goal.

Jodi Campbell assisted on the Grizzlies’ first three goals and Montana took a 3-0 halftime lead after outshooting Northridge, 13-8.

The Matadors (6-6-5, 2-2-2) were outshot, 24-19, in the game.

Goalkeeper Jenny Willemse of Northridge made nine saves.

Canyons 5, Santa Monica 1--Heather Zubis and Christina Hoefel each scored twice for the Cougars (11-5-2, 7-3) in a Western State Conference Southern Division game at Canyons.

Zubis scored on an assist from Alicia Alexander and the score was tied, 1-1, at halftime. Clarissa Silva assisted on Zubis’ second goal.

Hoefel had an unassisted goal and another assisted by Emma Barker.

Ventura 2, Cuesta 0--J.J. Toohey scored in the 17th minute and assisted on Emily Sutton’s goal in the 70th minute for the Pirates (14-3-2, 8-2) in a WSC Northern Division game at Ventura.

Oxnard 1, Moorpark 0--Anna McCrosky scored in the 20th minute and the Condors remained in first place in the WSC Northern Division at Oxnard.

Elba Campos had four saves for Oxnard (16-2, 8-2).

Antelope Valley 2, Mt. San Jacinto 1--Candice Pourghahreman and Erin McDaniel scored four minutes apart in the second half of a Foothill Conference game at Antelope Valley.

Elyse Webb of Antelope Valley (8-6-1, 4-3-1) had eight saves.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Thousand Oaks 17, Newbury Park 5--Jean Luc Renault scored four goals and assisted on three for the Lancers (9-7, 2-3) in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.

Renault scored three goals in the first quarter, and Eric Markle and Brian Hartson also scored as Thousand Oaks took a 5-0 lead.

Hartson finished with three goals and seven steals, and Chris Austin also had three goals.

Royal 31, Westlake 1--Ramiro Saldain had 11 goals and the Highlanders (20-3, 5-0) won a Marmonte League game at Westlake.

Calabasas 12, Nordhoff 6--Gene Broussard and Jordan Flacco each scored four goals for the Coyotes (10-10, 2-0) in a Frontier League victory at Calabasas.

Shawn Jappe had two goals for Nordhoff.

Crespi 22, Pasadena 11--Hernan Golbert had seven goals and six assists for Crespi (16-5) in a nonleague game at Pasadena.

GIRLS’ FIELD HOCKEY

Harvard-Westlake 0, Santa Ana 0--Jaclyn Rosenson had 11 saves for Harvard-Westlake (6-4-3, 5-4-3) in a Sunset League game at Santa Ana.
