Granada Hills Goes to Grab Bag

Granada Hills High went to its bag of tricks on its second touchdown drive of the fourth quarter to rally for a 14-13 victory over El Camino Real in a West Valley League game on Friday night at Granada Hills.

Michael Chang scored for the Highlanders on a halfback-option pass from Robert Ortega with 13 seconds to play and Gilbert Chavez kicked the game-winning extra point.

Gene Wei set up the touchdown, running a fumblerooski 36 yards to the El Camino Real 25.

A pass interference penalty moved the ball to the El Camino Real 12 with 31 seconds remaining,

Aaron Perez of Granada Hills (6-2, 2-1 in league play) intercepted a third-down pass by Jeremy Boyle on the El Camino Real 38 to preserve the victory.

The Conquistadores (1-7, 0-3) took a 7-0 lead with 3:17 left in the second quarter on an 87-yard pass play from Boyle to Terrish Weston. Christopher Pfeiffer’s extra-point kick was blocked.

Bryan Wilson cut the lead to 13-7 with 11:10 remaining on a 10-yard run. Wilson finished with 146 yards in 13 carries and Ortega gained 122 yards in 19 carries.

Boyle completed eight of 18 passes for 148 yards and Weston had five receptions for 115 yards.
