Slain Man Identified as Oxnard Resident
The 19-year-old man who was shot to death Friday night in Oxnard was identified by authorities on Saturday as Dino Zarate.
Zarate, an Oxnard resident, was shot once in the head at about 7:15 p.m., as he talked with a group of friends near Clara and Courtland streets in south Oxnard, authorities said.
Witnesses told police a man fired at the group from several feet away and then took off on foot. Oxnard police officials said detectives have several strong leads and anticipate making an arrest soon.
A motive for the killing was not immediately known, but authorities were investigating the possibility that gang retaliation was involved.
