New Road Link to Moorpark Proposed

Share

Ventura County planning commissioners Thursday recommended a new road be built on county land to improve safety and traffic flow between Moorpark and Thousand Oaks.

The two-lane, 1.3-mile road would extend from Santa Rosa Road to the intersection of Spring and Tierra Rejada roads. The Planning Commission’s recommendation will go to county supervisors, who have the final say on the proposed road.

Planning commissioners met Thursday to go over the environmental impact report for the project. The road is designed to be more of a direct line between Moorpark and Thousand Oaks, running parallel to the L-shaped Moorpark Road.

The commission’s recommendation of a new road would require an amendment to the county’s General Plan.

Moorpark officials had proposed Moorpark Road be widened to include two paved shoulders, but the commission rejected that plan.

Supervisors will consider the Planning Commission’s recommendation when they meet Sept. 19.
