Pooler, Dolphins Open With Easy Win Over Trojans
No. 1 singles player Kady Pooler and No. 2 Chelsy Thompson swept their sets to help Dana Hills defeat visiting University, 16-2, in nonleague girls’ tennis Thursday.
Pooler, who beat University’s top player, Megan Biorkman, 6-3, won her other two sets, 6-4, 6-4. Thompson won, 6-3, 7-6, 6-0.
In other nonleague girls’ tennis:
Canyon 11, Esperanza 7--Freshman Tracy Lin swept in singles, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0, and Nicole Sadler and Heather Hohenstein swept in doubles, 6-3, 6-3, 6-0, for Canyon (1-0).
In nonleague boys’ cross-country:
Santa Margarita 28, Fountain Valley 29, Brea Olinda 72--Steven Murray recorded a time of 15:56 over three miles as host Santa Margarita won the tri-meet.
In nonleague girls’ golf:
Mater Dei 123, Foothill 141--Shayna Shaw shot a 39 for Mater Dei at Santa Ana CC. Foothill’s Brittany Smith also shot 39.
Rosary 126, Canyon 152--Jennifer Sanders shot a three-over 39 and medaled for visiting Rosary (1-0) at Anaheim Hills.
In nonleague girls’ volleyball:
El Dorado 3, El Modena 2--Natalie Green had 12 kills and Kristin Fernandez had 11 kills and seven aces as visiting El Dorado won, 15-12, 15-7, 10-15, 11-15, 15-12.
Mater Dei 3, Esperanza 0--Breegan Mulligan had six kills and Jenny Senske had 25 assists for visiting Mater Dei (1-0) in a 15-6, 15-4, 15-7 victory.
In nonleague boys’ water polo:
Esperanza 11, La Habra 9--Brian Keenan and Tyler Morales each scored for Esperanza, which overcame a 7-2 halftime deficit.
