An early morning fire gutted a vacant commercial building in North Hollywood on Tuesday morning, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage, authorities said.

The blaze began about 5:51 a.m. in the 13200 block of Saticoy Street. The building, which has been vacant for two years, was once a popular square-dance hall, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis.

About 55 firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within 20 minutes.

Collis said electricity was shut off in the building. He declined to say the fire was of suspicious origin, saying only that it is under investigation.
