Carr’s Passing Leads Fresno State Over Cal

David Carr passed for 324 yards and teamed with Rodney Wright on two touchdown pass plays as Fresno State defeated California, 17-3, in a nonconference game Saturday night at Fresno.

Cal took a 3-0 lead on Mark-Christian Jensen’s 25-yard field goal with 3:05 left in the first half.

Carr’s 17-yard touchdown pass to Wright with 1:07 left in the second quarter gave the Bulldogs a 7-3 halftime lead.

Asen Asparuhov kicked a 36-yard field goal in the third quarter to put Fresno State ahead, 10-3. Early in the fourth quarter, Carr and Wright hooked up for a 21-yard touchdown pass play.

The crowd of 42,285 exceeded the capacity of the 41,031-seat stadium and set a record for attendance.

Idaho 38, Washington State 34--Quarterback John Welsh scored on a one-yard plunge with 40 seconds left at Pullman, Wash., as the Vandals (1-3) defeated the Cougars (1-3) for the second consecutive year.

The 83rd edition of the Battle of the Palouse had plenty of drama. There were nine lead changes and 937 yards of total offense.

Idaho hadn’t defeated Washington State two years in a row since the 1964 and 1965 seasons.

The 38 points was the most Idaho has ever scored against the Cougars, topping the 32 in a victory in 1903.
