Hauser-Price Makes Michigan Commitment

Sierra Hauser-Price, a two-sport standout at Notre Dame High, has committed to Michigan to play basketball and run track.

Hauser-Price is a two-time selection to The Times’ All-Valley girls’ basketball team and two-time defending Southern Section Division III champion in the 100 and 200 meters.

She took recruiting trips to Michigan, Notre Dame, Washington State, Nevada Las Vegas and Oregon.

“I just really liked the coaches there,” she said. “They seemed like they were really interested in helping me improve as much as I think I can.”

Hauser-Price is Notre Dame’s career scoring leader in basketball and averaged 17.7 points and four steals last season.

Her bests of 11.81 in the 100 and 23.99 in the 200 rank ninth on the all-time region track lists.

* Doug Stewart of Malibu beat Robert Yim of Glendale, 6-2, 6-3, in the boys’ 18 division final of the 57th annual Fullerton tournament Saturday at Fullerton Tennis Center.

Top-seeded Jamil Al-Agba of Ojai defeated Jeff Das of Fullerton, 6-0, 6-4, in the boys’ 16 final.

Skate Gorham of Ojai, seeded third, defeated second-seeded Carsten Ball of Newport Beach, 6-3, 6-3, in the boys’ 14 title match.

No. 1-seeded Mykala Hedberg of Oxnard beat No. 2-seeded Vania King of Long Beach, 6-2, 6-2, for the girls’ 14 championship.

* A goal by Celisse Hayden of Louisville High gave the L.A. Force a 1-0 victory over Valley United Stars in the under-17 Premier Division final of the Nomads College Showcase Sunday in San Diego.

Goalkeeper April Cline of Palmdale helped the team register its third shutout in six games.

The Force, based in the San Fernando Valley and coached by Adolfo Perez, opened pool play with a 1-1 tie against defending national champion So Cal Blues, beat a team from Oregon, 4-0, and tied the Firebirds of Utah, 1-1.

The Force beat the Fram Splash of Palos Verdes on a shootout after a 1-1 tie in the quarterfinals and beat the Firebirds in a shootout after a 0-0 tie in the quarterfinals.
