Pepperdine left-hander Noah Lowry pitched the best game of his college baseball career Saturday, limiting Gonzaga to three hits for his first shutout in a 1-0 West Coast Conference victory.

Lowry (8-1) finished with a career-high 11 strikeouts and no walks.

The junior from Nordhoff High and Ventura College is establishing himself as one of the nation’s top draft-eligible left-handers. In 62 innings, he has allowed 48 hits and 24 walks.

The Waves (20-11, 8-3) took two of three from the Bulldogs in Malibu and are in first place in the WCC.

The Cal Lutheran softball team (10-7, 6-1) pulled off an upset Saturday, sweeping La Verne, 3-1 and 1-0, in a SCIAC doubleheader to move into sole possession of first place.

Jennifer Lemons (3-2) scattered eight hits and allowed one run in seven innings in the first game.

Erin Nauhaus and Carrie Hardey combined on a two-hitter in the second game.

Hardey (3-1) pitched five innings of no-hit relief and Jessica Armacost, who graduated from Calabasas High, drove in the run.

The Regals have an earned-run average of 1.91.

La Verne is 24-7, 9-2.
