Mother, Son Killed When Car Hits Pole
A 58-year-old man and his 89-year-old mother were killed Tuesday afternoon when their car slammed into a light pole, the California Highway Patrol said.
Richard William Morris and Margorie Heavner, both of Oxnard, died instantly in the 3:30 p.m. crash at Rice Avenue and Pleasant Valley Road, CHP Officer Dave Webb said.
Morris was driving south on Rice Avenue when he rounded a curve at 45 to 55 mph, Webb said.
The car drifted onto the dirt shoulder and skidded about 200 feet through the intersection before hitting a pole on the southwest corner, Webb said.
The intersection was closed for more than three hours, causing backups on Rice Avenue and Pleasant Valley Road.
