Summer in the city, back of my neck dirty and gritty. Elmer Rice explored this image long before John Sebastian of the Lovin’ Spoonful. Rice won the 1929 Pulitzer Prize for his play “Street Scene,” which Kurt Weill turned into an opera for Broadway in 1947. Langston Hughes wrote the lyrics. Dean Hess directs this Cal State Fullerton student production, conducted by Ricardo Soto. Janet Smith and Mark Salters are musical directors.

“Fosse” celebrates the career of the great Broadway director and choreographer Bob Fosse. The show, a hit on Broadway for more than two years, faithfully reproduces dances Fosse created from 1953 until his death in 1987 for shows such as “Kiss Me, Kate,” “Dancin”’ “Chicago,” “Pippin” the film version of “Cabaret” and his semi-autobiographical movie, “All That Jazz.” Two of Fosse’s most famous female leads, Ann Reinking and his wife, the late Gwen Verdon, had a hand in bringing his original work back to the stage.
