Three people were injured when a single-engine plane crashed while trying to make an emergency landing Wednesday in a hilly area near the Antelope Valley, authorities said.

The four-seat Cessna lost power and crash-landed about 2:20 p.m. south of California 138 west of Lancaster, said Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Gump.

Pilot Gerald Dolin, 55, of Ventura called his son, who called the Sheriff’s Department, Gump said.

Dolin and his passengers, Paul and Lynn Stilwell, both 52, of Thousand Oaks, were flown to UCLA Medical Center. Lynn Stilwell has a broken wrist, facial cuts and possible spleen injuries, hospital officials said. Her husband and Dolin received spinal fractures.

All were in fair condition, officials said.

The plane had taken off from Camarillo Airport and was headed to Rosamond, said Bruce Nelson, an operations officer at the Federal Aviation Administration.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
