3 Hurt When Plane Loses Power, Crash-Lands Near State Highway
Three people were injured when a single-engine plane crashed while trying to make an emergency landing in a hilly area south of California 138 on Wednesday, authorities said.
The four-seat Cessna lost power and crash-landed about 2:20 p.m. near 170th Street West west of Lancaster, said Lt. Larry Gump of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita station.
Pilot Gerald Dolin, 55, of Ventura called his son, who called the Sheriff’s Department, Gump said.
Dolin and his passengers, Paul and Lynn Stilwell, both 52, of Thousand Oaks, were flown to UCLA Medical Center. Lynn Stilwell sustained a broken wrist, facial cuts and possible spleen injury, according to hospital officials. Her husband and Dolin received spinal fractures. All were in fair condition, officials said.
The plane had taken off from Camarillo Airport and was headed to Rosamond, said Bruce Nelson, an operations officer at the Federal Aviation Administration.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
